Broken Chains Ministry Ribbon Cutting was March 24, 2007. The
special guests were three women who are success stories. They are
pictured from left to right Sharon Barker, Rhonda Ramos, Tara Parker
and Broken Chains Ministry founder Annette Brockman, author of a
faith based 12 Step alcohol and substance abuse recovery program.
Annette teaches from her book called A Mended Life. finding Christ
in the darkness. The picture was taken in front of Broken Chains
Ministry Bunkhouse and Learning Center. Broken Chains Ministry can
house up to five women until a recovery facility is found for each
client. I also teach alcohol and substance abuse class in the
Learning Center. The ribbon cutting also included a silent auction,
raffle sales and wonderful food. Annette spoke about each of the
three women and their past and what they are doing in their lives
today.
Tara
Parker was the very first lady I had ever seen behind bars. Tara has
been in TDJC prison four times and in and out of jail several time.
Her drug of choice was crack and she had used it for 11 years. Tara
has been clean for 1 year and eight months as of March 24, 2007.
Tara was pregnant at the time I met in jail. She had a beautiful
girl named Jordan after being released from prison. Broken Chains
Ministry kept in touch with Tara while she was incarnated. Annette
found a Christian home for her. Tara has given her life to God and
is going to college to be a counselor so she will be able to help
others just like she was, she also has a job. I am very proud of
Tara for her new life, being a Christian and excellent mother. Tara
was presented a cross to hang on her wall.
Sharon
Barker and I met when she was incarnated in jail. Sharon has served
time in State Jail for six months, County Jail for five months and
has also been in and out of jail several times. Sharon's drugs of
choice were crack; cocaine and anything that would speed her up.
Sharon started using in 1992 and stopped in 2000 2002. She relapsed
and started using again. Sharon has been clean for one year and
eight days as of March 24, 2007. Sharon has completed two of Broken
Chains Ministry 12- Step Recovery classes and continues coming to
class weekly. Sharon works two jobs and plans to start college in
January 2008 to become a counselor so that she can help others just
like she was. I am very proud of Sharon's progress in life. She was
presented a cross to hang on her wall.
Rhonda
Ramos called Broken Chains Ministry and said that she saw our ad in
the paper. She was inquiring about Broken Chains Ministry Recovery
class and she signed up at that time. Rhonda was told by her Doctor
if she didn't quit that she would die in three months. Rhonda drank
for thirty eight years and used cocaine, crack and marijuana off and
on for ten years. The first night of class I asked Rhonda to come to
church with me that Sunday and she came. She and I sat together and
when the invitation hymn was sung she went forward to dedicate her
life to the Lord. Rhonda has been clean for seven months and twenty
four days as of March 24, 2007. She has completed Broken Chains
Ministry 12- Step Recovery Program. Rhonda has a job and I am very
proud of her progress. She was presented a cross to hang on her
wall.
Frances has been my mentor for over four years. One day I was at church and Frances came up to me and introduced herself to me; From then on we were friends. She had no idea that I was a sever addict. One day she came over to help me paint inside my house and our friend our friendship grew stronger. She realized that I was sick but had no clue how sick I was until one day I told her that I was a morphine addict. About ten years prior to this I had a motorcycle accident and contracted an incurable bone disease. I took the morphine for the pain. Frances took me to the Doctors because I couldn't drive. I got sick the day of my Doctors visit and was not able to go. Later in the day I got violently ill so Virginia, Barbara and Frances decided to take me to the hospital. I didn't want to go, because I wanted to die. Barbara and Frances toke me and admitted me into the hospital that night. One day while I was there I told Frances I was tired of being sick from the morphine and I said that I was ready to quit. She was so glad and she told me to tell the Doctor which I did. Frances helped me through my recovery and no one will ever know how difficult it is to help someone to recover. This story started in the church that Sunday morning when God sent Frances to be a servant for Him and to show me about Him and a better way to live my life. I recognized my mentor Frances with a gift for her support through my recovery. Frances continues to make sure that I am staying on track each day. She has been my mentor for over four years. Frances is always there for me. I want to thank her for being dedicated along with God in saving my life and my soul.
I recognized my counselor Barbara with a gift. She has been my private Christian counselor for three years or more. I want to thank her for never giving up on me and teaching me a new way to live.
I would like to thank the people who donated items for the raffle and silent auction. I also want to thank the people who furnished food and for the all volunteer help to get ready for the Ribbon Cutting.
